What we're looking for

We are looking for a Senior Linux System Administrator/Engineer who will maintain, monitor, and enhance our production and development Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure. You will work closely with our engineering team to develop and improve automated processes and enhance uptime, availability, performance, and the security posture of our deployment environments. You will also design and implement enhancements to our infrastructure to meet growing demand.

What you’ll do

  • Manage and securely configure Linux servers in a production environment.
  • Install, update and patch Operating Systems.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the computing environment.
  • Assist in the design, configuration, and oversight of system and network security.
  • Maintain end-to-end security ensuring best practices are always implemented.
  • Conduct capacity and performance analysis, and provide system configuration change and upgrade recommendations.
  • Deploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault tolerant systems on AWS.
  • Produce activity reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), software development life-cycle (SDLC) documents and checklists, and risk and issues logs.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a comparable Senior Linux System Administrator/Engineer role working in a production environment.
  • 8+ years IT experience
  • Experience supporting high-traffic web applications (LAMP/Postgres, log analysis, load balancers).
  • Excellent skills in: Redhat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), scripting and system automation (Perl, Bash, Awk, etc.), web server administration (Apache HTTP), and relational database management (PostgresQL desired)
  • Experience with: email delivery protocols and mail transfer agents like Postfix or Sendmail, multi-tier, load-balanced, highly-available web application deployment environments, virtualized environments like VMWare ESXi, Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosting, best practices, auto-scaling, certificate management, etc., source code control and ticket management systems, multi-server hosting architecture, and network-related tools (e.g., iptables, OpenVPN or IPSec, HAProxy, web app firewalls, etc.)
  • Linux troubleshooting and performance monitoring experience
  • Strong security background with excellent grasp of security principles, practices, tools, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with common system and web application vulnerabilities.
  • Familiarity with SELinux and OpenSCAP or similar (e.g., AppArmor or grsecurity).
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team to set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written with customers and company staff.
  • Awareness of industry best operations practices regarding OS deployment, system monitoring, troubleshooting, and debugging.
  • Detail-oriented, strong work ethic and high standard of excellence.
  • Handle confidential information, data and communications with utmost discretion.

Desired:

  • Automation engines (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, or Chef)
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery scenarios and periodic testing and validation of recovery strategies.
  • Security certification.
